The Agri SA membership has spent R331 million on transformation in the 2016/17 financial year and reached an estimated 108 307 beneficiaries, of which includes 55 000 farmers. The 2018 Agri SA Transformation Report includes several projects which includes commodity members, provinces and corporates members that have been involved. The survey report and additional research also gives the opportunity to critically identify challenges to transformation, of which a shortage of capital is at the top of the list.
The 2018 Agri SA Transformation Report is the first consolidated report on transformation within agriculture.
Agri SA’s Transformation Report is geared towards promoting transformation in agriculture. This is done by identifying best practices and exploring opportunities for further growth and finding solutions to developmental challenges. The survey of farmer development programs enables Agri SA to pro-actively update government and other stakeholders on the work done and challenges that exist. The report is a recognition of the successes that can be achieved through partnerships.
“The 2018 Transformation Report is an excellent point of departure to have a discussion on transformation," said Christo van der Rheede, Agri SA Deputy Executive Director. “There is a great deal of energy within the agricultural sector to make transformation work, but we must also ensure that the resources that flow towards these aims lead to truly sustainable farms."
The 2018 Transformation Report was released at the annual Agri SA Commodity and Corporate Chambers Conference. The full report is available on the Agri SA website.
