Job Summit: Agri SA welcomes spirit of collaboration

Agri SA welcomes the Job Summit initiative that focuses on collaboration to support job creation. Agri SA is a participant in the NEDLAC process, though its Business Unity South Africa (BUSA) membership.

“Agri SA shares BUSA’s view that we need economic growth and the eradication of corruption before we can achieve significant job creation,” said Jahni de Villiers, Agri SA Head: Labour & Development.

There will be a focus on various interventions to encourage job creation including:
• The promotion of Agriculture, agro-processing and the agricultural value chain,
• The expansion and strengthening of South African exports,
• Financing for transformation in Agriculture.

Through these interventions the summit aims to create 275 000 direct jobs per year to tackle the triple challenge of unemployment, poverty and inequality.

“The outcomes of the Job Summit are a welcome start towards supporting job creation, as part of a broader strategy to support growth and economic development,” said Christo van der Rheede, Agri SA Deputy Executive Director.
