Reduction in general fuel levy a welcome intervention to contain food prices
Agri SA welcomes the announcement of the temporary reduction of the general fuel levy. This is a necessary intervention to buttress the agricultural sector and consumers against the impact of rising fuel prices on the cost of food.

The average international product prices for Petrol, Diesel and Illuminating Paraffin decreased during the period under review. The Rand depreciated against the US Dollar during the period under review, on average, when compared to the previous period. The average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate for the period 30 July 2021 to 26 August 2021 was 14.7791 compared to 14.5359 during the previous period. This led to a higher contribution to the Basic Fuel Prices on petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin by 13.23 c/l, 12.16 c/l and 11.96 c/l respectively.

The Rand depreciated against the US Dollar during the period under review, on average, when compared to the previous period. The average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate for the period 02 July 2021 to 29 July 2021 was 14.5359 compared to 13.9219 during the previous period. This led to a higher contribution to the Basic Fuel Prices on petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin by 34.73 c/l, 32.27 c/l and 31.42 c/l respectively.

Petrol price comes down in May
The price of petrol is set to come down by nine cents a litre as of Wednesday, the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) announced.
The price of 95 (ULP and LRP) and 93 (ULP and LRP) will come down by 9 cents a litre.
Meanwhile, diesel (0.05% Sulphur) will decrease by 31 cents a litre, while the price of diesel (0.005% Sulphur) will decrease by 30 cents a litre.
